Get to know Mike Wilson
A native of Iva, SC, Mike Wilson attended Furman University on a football scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1988. While at Furman, he was a member of the varsity football and track teams, earning six varsity letters. He also holds an MBA from Winthrop University where he graduated with honors.
Mike and his wife Jill ’90 have three children: Sarah, Owen, and Eli. They reside in the Wren community of Anderson County where Mike serves on the board of trustees for Anderson School District One.
Mike joins Furman from Duke Energy, where he began his career in 1989. Mike has held several positions at Duke Energy’s corporate office working in regulatory affairs, planning, and marketing. His career at Duke Energy culminated with his work as District Manager of Government and Community Relations for Greenville and Spartanburg counties.
Mike is a graduate of Leadership South Carolina and The Riley Institute at Furman’s Diversity Leadership Initiative. He is a former member of the board of directors for the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce, Clemson Area Chamber of Commerce, Innovate Anderson, Senior Solutions, Anderson Area YMCA, United Way of Anderson County, Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Tri-County Tech Foundation, and the Paladin Club.
Currently, he serves on the board of the following organizations: South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Governor's School of the Arts Foundation, Artisphere, Metropolitan Arts Council, Chapman Cultural Center, and the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce. Mike is a past-president of the Anderson Rotary Club and a current member of the Spartanburg Rotary Club.
Mike is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting, fishing, and physical fitness. He also has enjoyed serving his local community the last nine years as an active youth sports coach.
