Furman Reflections - An Alumni History Project

 

The Furman University Alumni Association invites all alumni to participate in the creation of an oral history publication that unites Furman alumni across the generations. The project is an opportunity to gather stories and collect memories that bring the Furman experience to life. We are interested in your reflections and tributes, and we hope that this endeavor will preserve Furman’s history for generations to come.

 

Your story

What Furman story will you tell?  What memory is most special?  It can be serious or lighthearted, a heart-felt tribute or with a bit of humor.  The experiences of Furman alumni are unique, and variety is welcome.
  • Did a professor or staff member have a profound impact on your life?
  • Have college connections developed into lifelong friendships?
  • Did you have a memorable study away experience, internship, or opportunity in the community?
  • Did your participation in a student organization or athletic team impact you in a meaningful way?
  • Can you trace your career success back to Furman?
  • Did you fall in love at Furman?  Kiss at the belltower?
  • Are you a Furman legacy, with experiences that transcend generations of your family?
  • Are you a first-generation college graduate?

PCI Partnership

Furman University has partnered with Publishing Concepts (PCI) to gain access to its experienced, trained staff.  PCI employees will listen to your stories and assemble information into a publication.  In an effort to help you stay connected to Furman, PCI will also verify and update contact information if you have moved or recently lost touch.  Please note that we have only shared your contact information with PCI in conjunction with this project.  We have NOT sold your personal information or otherwise used it for outside marketing purposes.

 

Cost

There is NO cost to share your story, and we invite all alumni to participate.  If interested, you will have an opportunity to purchase the full publication as a hard-bound book or digital collection.

 

Participation

PCI will contact Furman alumni directly through postcards, emails and phone calls to encourage participation.  You are invited to schedule an appointment at your convenience with a PCI employee who will record your memory. 

 

Timeline

Memory collection will take place during the spring 2020 semester and into the early summer.  Final publication will be delivered in book and digital formats in early 2021 to purchasing customers.
