Dr. Ralph Z. “Zig” Boroughs ’47: The 508th Connection
Dr. Burroughs was a paratrooper in WWII and arrived in England on June 6, 1944. He was sent to the 508th as a replacement for troops killed on D-Day. This is his third book about his unit. After the war he attended Furman and then went to seminary, followed by a distinguished career in the ministry.

Dr. Edgar McKnight: Baptists and Their Contribution to the Shaping of Jesus
A resident of Greenville, McKnight is a prolific writer and editor who taught at Furman for 35 years before retiring in 1998. The Charleston native received degrees in history, New Testament studies, and philosophical theology from the College of Charleston, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Oxford University. McKnight, author and editor of more than a dozen books in biblical studies, writes that Baptists have contributed in a peculiar way to the understanding of Jesus as the Christ.  Because of the Baptist vision and Baptist answers to persistent questions about the identity of Jesus, Baptists have had their own unique take on the shaping of Jesus.  The book opens with a prologue framing the Baptist vision and a chapter introducing the origins of modern Baptists in England at the beginning of the 17th century.  The historical revolution in Jesus studies and the christological argumentation among Baptists is also given detailed treatment in a discussion of seminal American figures in Baptist scholarship.

Michelle Lauren Pugh ’05: Love at First Hike
Love at First Hike is the story of a college graduate who set out to fulfill a childhood dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail from start to finish. In the woods she enjoyed the bliss of being surrounded by nature, the peacefulness of small trail towns, and the companionship of fellow hikers. Unexpectedly, amidst a backdrop of wind-swept mountains, tranquil valleys, and breathtaking sunsets, she experienced a blossoming romance. After an unpreventable injury forced her off the trail, she feared that both her dream of reaching Mount Katahdin and her hope for the relationship were gone. Little did she know what the future held.
Michelle is a 2005 alumna and majored in Philosophy. She is the daughter of Donna McCorkle Pugh, a member of the class of 1977. She is currently working as an EMT in Greenville County and lives in Simpsonville.
