What's calling you now?
part of the Tom & Becky Becherer “What’s Calling You Now?” Alumni Programs

It is a powerful question for Furman alumni of all ages. The first part—“What’s calling you”—recognizes we are each designed for a life of purpose and impact. The second part—“now”—acknowledges our calling changes over time.

From June 8-11, 2023, Furman’s Cothran Center for Vocational Reflection will once again host its biennial alumni retreat for you to consider “What’s calling you now?”

The retreat offers attendees opportunities to reflect upon your talents, passions, experiences, and reason for being. You will learn about vocational reflection, the journeys of others, and yourself. The retreat will create time and space to slow down, to pause, to connect or reconnect with fellow alumni and with yourself.

The 2023 retreat will feature educator & facilitator, Amy Seefeldt. Amy has been an educator for twenty-three years and spent five years founding the Centre for Imagination at the Woodstock School in India, dedicated to re-imagining education in ways that better place vocation at the nexus, so that people might find and create their authentic places in the world.

Amy Seefeldt bio:
I work towards purpose. The Japanese concept of ikigai roughly translates as 'reason for being'. I painted this word and the facets of its definition on the wall beside the door of the Centre for Imagination, my most recent project of the last four years at Woodstock School, in the Himalayas. When I moved to El Salvador, I photographed that same painting, framed it, and hung it in my office as a reminder. The heart of education, for me, lies in guiding each person towards discovering or fashioning their unique place in the world, the place where they can flourish and, in turn, give life to their surroundings.
