
Don your kil t and prep your ea rs for the merriment of bag pipes -- The Scottish Games are back for another historic celebration at Furman. The Games are part of the Gallabrae celebration happening throughout Greenville from May 23 to May 27.
The Greater Greenville Scottish Games bring 20,000 visitors to campus and are the preeminent Games in North America, welcoming Prince Edward in the past and the Duke of Hamilton this year.
Celebrations on May 26 will include educational events, athletic and musical competitions, and a wide variety of events to suit any age or interest. Popular events include the Border Collie and sheep exhibition, Highland Dancing demonstrations, and recognition of the Armed Services – this year featuring Army Special Forces parachuting on campus to deliver the American and Scottish flags.
President Smolla will ride in the celebratory Great Scot! Parade through downtown Greenville on Friday, May 25, and will give the welcome on Saturday in the Furman kilt. Furman is also pleased to represent in the Miss Scottish Games, won by Furman senior Brooke Mosteller who will also compete in the Miss South Carolina pageant this summer.
