Cherrydale Alumni House, situated on a hill overlooking the campus, offers a tranquil setting for small events.
Cherrydale Alumni House Furman University 3300 Poinsett Highway Greenville, South Carolina 29613 Cherrydale Alumni House serves as a beautiful venue for intimate gatherings of friends, family, and colleagues. Moved to the campus in 1999, the stately Greek Revival home provides a sentimental link to Furman's past. James Clement Furman, the university's first president, transformed Cherrydale from a modest farmhouse to a grand summer retreat between 1857 and 1860. Following his retirement in 1881, Dr. Furman spent the final decade of his life enjoying the serenity of his renovated home.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Cherrydale features gracious interior spaces and exquisitely landscaped gardens. Space is available inside the home to seat 26 guests for dinner or to serve 45 guests at a reception. Additional seating for 16 guests is located on the brick terrace, a popular spot for casual buffets. Large groups of up to 150 may be accommodated by using the interior spaces, the brick terrace, and the front lawn; however, no more than 49 individuals may be present in the home at one time by order of the fire marshal. While Cherrydale is available for use by any group, preference will be given to those affiliated with Furman. To inquire about reserving Cherrydale for your special occasion, please call the Furman Alumni Association at (864) 294-3464.
